Cropped Photo Version (Original Art Look Better - In Person!!!)

This is my half of an art trade with :iconkatdarkshines: aka *katdarkshines who is a fantastic artist! and great friend!

Yes I wanted to practice my digital skills but the lovely *katdarkshines asked if I would do this traditionally so that she could have it! (Friend both on n off dA!)

So she asked if I could do a traditional version of [link] which I agree'd too! As part of our art trade!!

So taking into account everything I know how to do traditionally and all stuff I've picked up while doing my other forms of artwork I was able to create this!

I started working with pencils upon A4 white printer paper to make a basic out line, I thought I'd do it in black and white pencils with perhaps a touch of black ball point pen. Only I remebered I have some unused water colour pencils and so I decided to embrace them along side the drawing pencils and ball point pen. I continued and then decided for easy use I'd use a black perminant marker to do her top which I them used in the hair too... I then went on to create the background upon finishing the whole piece (just over 4 hours) when I started doing the background but the water colour pencils were miss behaving and my smoke ruined the whole piece. So I took it off to my bedroom and decided to go over it in blues, purples and grays (eye shadow) only I got a bit carried away and decided to go over the hair so it was more brown, to go over the skin so it was more shaded and gave off a more realistic look and then to use various eye shadows to enhance the piece in areas I felt it needed. I then went and got a black fine liner and ust wont over some of the smaller areas (eyes, nostril, buckel etc) and then wrote my dA user, signed and dated. I then finished the whole thing off with a light spray of hairspray just incase!!! (de-smudgey-ness!)

I am deffinitly going to miss this as I am so very proud of it. But I need to get a frame and then Miss Katrina can have it :P

Please leave me crits/comments on how to improve future pieces of my art work.

I have my moments. Although I hate doing traditonal stuff as I find it so hard to put on the pc. You know good scanning or photography of the piece usually it distorts the beauty of my original piece but I think I did quite well here. Thank you for your comment and your words xoxox

This looks fantastic, your traditional skills have really developed. The shading pose and colours look great and the proportions look good to me as well. great work.

Thank you and yes they have, although I'm avoiding doing it due to the quality of scanner/camera ...

Anways I'm glad you like the pose (I couldn't help it) and the colours (I got very creative) and the proportions which I think I worked on the hardest, to get them as right as possible.

Thank you always xx

You are very welcome. Scanners tend to kill colour I have found, whereas photos can always be edited to get them looking like the original art work.

Yeh... We'll see. I'm working on a couple of traditional pieces and a couple of digital paintings although this past week I've drifted due to personal stuff and dA's 11th Birthday.

Well if you're going to do something you might as well do it right. I'm sure this wouldn't of been half as good if I just stuck to colour pencils or to just markers etc... I'm glad how it turned out lol.

For someone that said they fail at traditional art this is amazing! Thank you so much I love it :glomp:
You used water colour pencils on printer paper O_O how did the paper not to go all bumpy with the water?

Yeh ok so I don't fail all that much lol... But there's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better people than I at doing this sorta stuff. I don't like doing tradtional for 2 reasons 1 if you mess it up, it's messed up and 2 it's really difficult to get a great quality scan/photo to put up on dA! LOL!

If you do a little bit of work with water colour and then leave it to dry and then do a bit more and so on and so fourth. I only used water colours on the dreads and hair also slightly in the background, the background was more of a dry water colour pencils. But I also used eye shadow and usually the powder soaks up the water too! Lol ...I had a project in college which was to use none art realated media to create imagery and eye shadow along with stuff like berry juice works very well indeed!

Traditional media is such a pain to get a good enough quality (scan/photo) to be willing to put on here. I don't mind doing traditional it's just a pain when it doesn't look the same on here as it does in person with the original... hummm. Maybe, I did enjoy doing it tbh!

I know exactly what you mean about scanning in traditional stuff, it doesn't do the colours in particular any favours :P

Thank you. I like doing traditional stuff and mixing things up a bit (used eye shadow to help colour this!!!) but the only thing is getting a quality that works well enough to upload to here. Photo versions tend to be too dark or shadowed or lacking details and scanned seems to be too light or lacking details.

Thank you the original looks amazingly better. I am going to try and work out how to get the best resolution version later on today but right now the perminant marker has gone to my head  and I am cooking tea lol :D I am glad you like it. I have your steampunk pirate to work on later, not quite sure how that's gunna turn out yet but I figured it'll take the longest so I left it until last (hope you don't mind) I've done 2/3 now lol :D
